ISA statement on Ofsted's review of sexual abuse in schools and colleges
Ofsted's review of sexual abuse in schools and colleges has further highlighted the extent of this deeply concerning issue.
Though the review recognises good practice in tackling sexual harassment and abuse, it is very concerning that for some children, incidents are considered commonplace.
The Independent Schools Association (ISA), its member headteachers and schools welcome and support the recommendations provided in the report to assist schools, agencies and the government in tackling this issue ever more effectively, to ensure that children feel confident to report abuse and safeguarding practices are robust and effective to respond appropriately.
We must all play our part in combatting this issue to keep children and young people safe.
Anyone affected by sexual abuse in schools can seek support and advice through the dedicated NSPCC helpline on 0800 136 663.
